Ministry of Interior arrested 22,481 people
found to be staying illegally in UAE in the first
five months of 2013.
The men and women, mainly Asian, were caught during inspections carried out across the UAE.
The ministry said it has also slapped fines of Dhs50,000 each on 179 firms that were caught employing illegal residents. major General Hareb Al Khaili, acting assistant undersecretary for naturalisation and immigration affairs, said: “The ministry’s teams raided different firms and found illegal immigrants being employed there.”

Other illegal immigrants were caught after inspectors raided apartments, villas and other premises where they were staying, he added.
Al Khaili said some of the suspects had run away from their sponsors and others had over stayed their visas.
“Our inspectors are pursuing a campaign to curb illegal staying in the country,” he added.
He urged all companies and residents not to hire illegal residents and infiltrators, stressing it poses a threat to the community.
